Some boards you design. This one found me.
I spotted the original up in Mike Hynson’s rafters — buckled, dusty, one of a kind. A rare semi-gun he’d shaped for Blacks Beach, built for the hollow, heavy days when La Jolla shows its teeth. One look at that outline and I was done for.
Mike gave me his blessing to bring it back. I hand-shaped it, he came by to look it over, and when he was happy we both signed it — Guru Shapes × Mike Hynson. One of the last boards to leave his hands, and one of the most treasured I own.
The magic? She was drawn for giants, but I’ve ridden her in three-foot Oceanside dribble and she lights right up. Long and narrower, yet she turns and glides like a board half her size — fast, responsive, endlessly fun. Three feet to twelve-plus, depending on how brave you are.
